Using the Delhi Metro as a visitor
The Delhi Metro links Old Delhi, Connaught Place, the government quarter and much of south Delhi. For a visitor, its big advantage is a fixed fare by distance and no traffic jams. The last stretch to a monument is usually on foot or by auto-rickshaw, because stations rarely sit at the gate. This page covers the fares, the Airport Express and the stations for the main sights.
Fares were revised across all corridors and the Airport Express from 25 August 2025. The steps below come from a press report of the operator's announcement, so confirm the amount at the ticket machine. Older fare tables you may find online, including those with a 60 INR top fare, are out of date.
For stations near each place, jump to the section on stations for the sights below. If you are arriving by air, the Delhi airport page explains the choice between metro, taxi and transfer.

Delhi Metro fares since 25 August 2025
Normal fares from Monday to Saturday, by distance travelled. On Sundays and on national public days off each step is one level cheaper.
| Distance | Monday to Saturday | Sunday and national days off |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 2 km | 11 INR | 11 INR |
| Over 2 km up to 5 km | 21 INR | 11 INR |
| Over 5 km up to 12 km | 32 INR | 21 INR |
| Over 12 km up to 21 km | 43 INR | 32 INR |
| Over 21 km up to 32 km | 54 INR | 43 INR |
| Over 32 km | 64 INR | 54 INR |
A tourist card for unlimited travel exists, but it does not cover the Airport Express, and ask at a station counter for its price on the day. The operator also describes wide gates, tactile paths, ramps, lifts and wheelchairs at stations. This is a description of the system, so do not assume that every lift works on the day you travel.

Airport Express
The Airport Express is a separate line with its own fares. It serves Terminals 2 and 3 of the airport. Terminal 1 is reached on the Magenta Line. According to an independent metro guide checked in October 2026, the ride from New Delhi station to the airport at Terminal 3 costs 64 INR and takes about 16 minutes on the train, while Aerocity is 54 INR. Walking and waiting inside stations come on top, and the figures should be confirmed at the station. The Delhi airport page compares this with taxis and transfers.
Stations for the sights
The station names below come from the official tourism and metro material. Allow time for the final stretch, as no walking times are given.
- Chandni Chowk (Yellow Line): the usual way into Old Delhi. For Jama Masjid, tourism information also names Chawri Bazaar. See Chandni Chowk.
- Rajiv Chowk (Yellow and Blue lines): the stop for Connaught Place.
- Qutub Minar (Yellow Line): the station of the same name, plus a walk. See Qutub Minar.
- JLN Stadium: named by Delhi Tourism for Humayun's Tomb. See Humayun's Tomb.
- Kalkaji Mandir (Violet and Magenta lines): for the Lotus Temple.
- Akshardham (Blue Line): for the Akshardham temple.
- Central Secretariat: an access option for the government quarter and India Gate, though not the nearest stop for every point on the avenue.
Tips for riding
A few points that help when you start out.
Train times
Check the first and last trains for your station and day on the metro's own channels. They are not listed here, and a station you used in the morning may not run late at night.
Disruptions
Special events can change traffic and services. A traffic warning covered the area around Bharat Mandapam from 11 to 13 September 2026, and it has since passed. Look for current notices before a long ride.
Bags and crowds
Stations have security checks, and trains are busy at peak hours. Travel light, keep valuables close and carry small notes or a card for the ticket machine.
The guided day with metro and rickshaw rides meets at Rajiv Chowk, Gate 1. It is a way to learn the system with a guide if you are nervous about riding alone at the start. Check what the option you pick includes, and plan other sights on the things to do in Delhi page.
