Humayun's Tomb at a glance
The Humayun tomb is a garden mausoleum in Delhi and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1993. UNESCO dates the tomb to 1570 and describes it as an important forerunner of later Mughal architecture up to the Taj Mahal. The ASI gives 1569 as the year when construction began, so keep the two dates apart: one is the start of work, the other is UNESCO's date for the tomb.
The tomb is one of the simplest Mughal sights to add to a city tour. Many tours combine it with the Qutub Minar, so see the Qutub Minar page for that stop, and the Taj Mahal tour from Delhi if you want to follow the line from this tomb to the later monument in Agra.

Humayun's Tomb tickets
Two official pages, two price lists.
Keep the two official lists apart, because they are not the same table. The ASI lists 50 INR in cash or 35 INR online for the SAARC and BIMSTEC countries it names, and 600 INR in cash or 550 INR online for other foreign visitors. Children under 15 enter free. The ASI page does not state a price for Indian visitors.
Delhi Tourism gives its own list: 40 INR for Indian visitors and 600 INR for foreigners, with no separate online price. Photography is free there, and a video camera costs 25 INR. Because the Indian and SAARC prices differ between the pages, ask at the counter which price applies to you before you pay.
Several tours include the ticket only as an option. A private guided tour with an entry ticket and a skip-the-line tour with transfers list the tickets and the hotel pickup as options you must choose. The full-day Old and New Delhi tour visits the tomb as well, with monument tickets only in the entrance fee option.
Opening hours: check the evening
Two closing times for the same site.
The ASI publishes sunrise to 21:00. Delhi Tourism says sunrise to sunset daily. Since the pages differ, do not plan a late evening visit on the assumption that you will get in after dark. Arrive in the daytime, ask at the entrance about the closing time of that day, and treat any evening opening as a bonus.
Works and access
A report of 12.09.2026 mentions the renewal of visitor facilities at the tomb. It does not describe a closure of the whole site. Delhi Tourism calls the tomb disable friendly, but it does not describe a step-free route to every room, so wheelchair users should ask on arrival which paths are open. Short restrictions can occur when official delegations visit, as a press report of 13.09.2026 described for three monuments. That was a temporary note and not a rule.
Why the tomb matters before the Taj Mahal
The tomb is worth a visit even if you will see the Taj Mahal later. UNESCO describes it as an important forerunner of the Mughal architecture that leads to the Taj Mahal, and seeing it first makes the Agra visit easier to read.
Plan a visit at a relaxed pace, because the site is a garden complex and not a single building. In the hot months, come at opening and keep the middle of the day for something indoors or in the shade. The history page explains where this period fits in the story of Delhi, and the things to do page lists the other monuments in this area.
